This album contains ten great and endless epic tracks to reach far beyond trepidation and tranquillity, it’s not only welcoming with open arms but captivating slowly the listener and remainig breathless till the last sound. „Beyond The Undulant Quiescence“ unifies the opposites when the frostiness of the synthesizer sound and the warmth of the melodies are melting one another. The spectrum ranges from melancholic piano compositions to complex and superior songstructures with an open commitment to slow motion. In every track there is this cryptical sparkling which is always shimmering but it almost stays in the background. It’s the multilayered arrangement in each track which is constantly changing the colours and feature an cineastic coarseness in an audible way.

REVIEW (Surreal Immersion):
Fjernlys is a fairly new project that released their first album in 2006, ‚Ascending Triads & Luminous Arcs‘ on Loki Foundation. One of the people behind the project is now totally new, as it is the joint project of Knut Enderlein from Inade and Johannes Riedel from Circular. There is also a third member involved by the name simply of CKS, who delivers her vocals and does song arrangements. I’ve never heard of the music of Fjernlys before, though I know their existence. Since the people involved, expectation run high of course.
The music of Fjernlys has more in common with the mysteries of the Earth, and sometimes in relation to her place in the cosmos, then deep space only, like Inade and Circular are all about and goes more into a direction like Herbst9 does, albeit less dark. The opening track ‚Formless & Perfect‘ starts with beautiful melodies and an overall soothing atmosphere. ‚Silence‘ is a little bit darker and has a nice mystical energy surrounding it. The interesting and mysterious vocals of CKS turn up, who delivers the foreboding spoken words. ‚Whisper In White‘ also makes us of vocals, this time of Mr. Enderlein. The vocals have a kind of darkwave sound to it, while the sound of the music is very mystical and fits perfectly together. ‚A Letter To…‘ starts with great little melodies and choir synth/sample sounds. The song as a whole has a very good meditative vibe to it. ‚Beyond The North‘ is a very effective and hypnotizing soundscape with good use of the vocals of Enderlein, and reminds me a little bit of label-mate Fir§t Law. ‚Constellation‘ is a beautiful relaxing and melodic song with the hypnotising vocals of CKS again. ‚Involution‘ starts with very ominous choirs and eventually transforms into a cinematic ritual/tribal song. ‚Star’s Orbit‘ takes us on a trip to the stars. Sweet melodies and strings create a very soothing and mystical atmosphere with again the effective vocals of Enderlein. ‚Elemental Movement‘ takes us back to Earth again to delve into our own world of mystical elements. Our voyage ends with ‚Zodiac‘, which is more of an experimental soundscape with lots of different sounds. As the song progresses, the song gets denser with piano keys and layers of sounds to create an overwhelming hypnotising atmosphere. We enter at the core of our being and see the true nature of it all. We don’t know anything, yet we gain everything!
‚Beyond The Undulant Quiescence‘ is again a brilliant release from the Loki Foundation label. Of course with the people involved in this project it’s now real big surprise. This album is a pure aural voyage of the highest order. It’s less dark then Inade can be. The use of vocals of CKS and Enderlein work very well and have sometimes a kind of Fir§t Law atmosphere. While Fjernlys certainly plays with cosmic themes, like they do with Inade and Circular, they also very much have an Earthly ambience to it, like the work of Herbst9. While being less tribal and dark than that project, with Fjernlys we experience the cosmos from the Earth, instead of from deep space itself. Highly recommended!

Wer kann sich noch an die verklärt-romantischen Synthesizer-Sounds erinnern, die vor ca. 15 Jahren unsere schwarzen, träumerischen und melancholischen Herzen mit wohligem Schmerz erfüllten? Diese langsam fließenden Töne, zu denen uns eine Botschaft mit oft verschlüsseltem Inhalt hingehaucht wurde? Endraum waren eine jener Bands, die das in Perfektion beherrscht haben. Doch diese Art von Musik schien alsbald ausgestorben. Die romantischen Klänge wurden entweder von Beats verdrängt oder zogen sich in andere musikalische Gefilde zurück. Knut Enderlein, eine Hälfte des bekannten Duos Inade, holt diese Musik mit seinem Projekt Fjernlys und dessen neuem Album „Beyond The Undulant Quiescence“ aus den Tiefen der Vergangenheit wieder ans Tageslicht. Mit Hilfe von CKS und Johannes Riedel frönt das Projekt den langsamen Melodien und gibt sich der ruhigen Melancholie hin.
Fjernlys konfrontiert und mit gesprochenen Gedanken und Botschaften, die nicht immer sofort zu verstehen und zu begreifen sind. Die Musik befindet sich in einer Art Fluss, der langsam oder gar rückwärts zu fließen scheint, so als ob sich die Zeit dehnen würde. Dass dem nicht so ist, daran erinnern uns helle, an Glöckchen erinnernde Töne eines Metallophons, die im Kontrast zu den Synthie-Melodien regelrecht hüpfen. Pianoklänge tragen zur allgegenwärtigen Melancholie bei, die atmosphärisch eher einem verklärten Träumen gleicht. Die Welt von Fjernlys ist aber nicht immer in morgendlichen Sonnenschein gehüllt, sondern auch in bedrohliche Gewitterwolken wie bei „Involution“. Doch diese Ausflüge in die musikalische Düsternis sind die Ausnahme. Fjernlys liebt eher das Zusammenspiel von Schwere und Leichtigkeit, wenn die hell klingenden Töne den langsamen Korpus des Songs ans Licht holen.
Die nostalgische Reise, die uns Fjernlys offeriert, ist nur allzu verlockend. Dieser Synthesizer-Ambient ist zwar nicht neu, aber herrlich romantisch. So lasset uns schwelgen in lauen und uns fürchten in dunklen Nächten. Für Nostalgiker und Romantiker gleichermaßen zur musikalischen Erquickung geeignet. „Beyond The Undulant Quiescence“ sei all jenen ans Herz gelegt, die Abstand vom hektischen Alltag und einen Ruhepol suchen.
REVIEW (Terrorverlag):
Neben den Schaffensphasen von INADE findet Knut Enderlein auch immer wieder mal Zeit, sich seiner weiteren, deutlich organisch-songorientierteren musikalischen Ausdrucksform FJERNLYS zu widmen. Seit der 2007 veröffentlichten Mini LP „Within the Mind of Ghost” ist es insoweit zwar ruhig geworden, doch wird jetzt endlich der zweite Longplayer nachgelegt. Wieder mit dabei sind seine Frau “CKS” (Arrangements & Voice) sowie Johannes Riedel (CIRCULAR) an Viola und Gitarre.
Der Albumtitel „Beyond the undulant quiescence” besagt eigentlich schon alles, was die Klangmaterie bei FJERNLYS charakterlich ausmacht. Auf der Basis von wallenden, andächtigen Ambientschwaden, die mit elegisch anmutenden Melodien (oft erzeugt mittels einer Art Glockenspiel) verziert und teils auch mit dezent akzentuierten elektronischen Rhythmen unterlegt werden, entstehen meditativ einnehmende Songkonstrukte. Die entspannte Elektronica lässt Raum und Zeit verschwimmen und kreiert einen harmonischen Kosmos, an dessen Horizont als Höhepunkte der tonalen Reise das loungige „Constellation“ und das verträumte „Star´s Orbit“ aufsteigen (beide lediglich unterbrochen vom kraftvollen „Involution“). Diese werden – wie auch einige weitere Stücke – dabei mit sanft vorgetragenen, visionären Stimmen ergänzt, welche die greifbare Atmosphäre noch verdichten.
Da das Trio zudem mit wunderbaren Klangfarben arbeitet, ist ihr neues Werk bis zum letzten Ton ein Ohrenschmaus und FJERNLYS stehen damit wie ein Fels in der Brandung, an dem sich andere Acts aus diesem Bereich erstmal die Zähne ausbeißen können.
